Lookouts Coaches Believe Elly De La Cruz Destined to be a Superstar
Former Chattanooga Lookout Elly De La Cruz made his major league debut with Cincinnati on Tuesday. De La Cruz has tremendous power and speed. He was considered one of the top prospects in the minors, and Lookouts coaches believe he’s destined to be a superstar.
Said Lookouts pitching coach Brian Garman:”I was with Elly in Dayton last year before he came up here. I would say that he is going to be the most exciting player in baseball. One could argue that Shohei Ohtani is that now. But Elly just. Guy has like ten tools. He just does everything.”
Said Lookouts hitting coach Daryle Ward:”Tremendous power too. I mean balls just come off his bat really hard. Even like ground ball singles are like 110 or 115 miles per hour, and he probably runs just as fast.” (chuckles)
De La Cruz went 1-for-3 in his debut with the Reds.
