Lookouts Elly De La Cruz Smashes One of Longest Homers Ever at AT&T Field

Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) Shortstop Elly De La Cruz is a highly regarded prospect for the Cincinnati Reds.
He joined the Chattanooga Lookouts after the All-Star break, and it didn’t take him long to make some noise.
On Thursday night, he smashed one of the longest home runs ever hit at AT&T Field.
Lookouts hitting coach Eric Richardson witnessed the bomb against Rocket City.

When Elly De La Cruz stood in for his first at-bat Thursday.
He brought the oohs and aahs.
According to the Trackman device the Chattanooga Lookouts use, that home run traveled 512 feet.
Said Richardson:”I mean I think anyone that has been in this stadium a long time. I mean I think they’re rest assured that’s probably one of the furtherest balls ever hit at this stadium. I mean he got all of that ball. He came back in the dugout. He kind of joked with me. He told me I kind of got jammed a little bit, but I don’t think he got jammed. Only jam was on the bread.”
Reporter:”Can you remember a phrase you heard in the dugout after that home run?”
Said Richardson:”Oh my God is accurate. I heard when is it going to land. I mean they should be selling peanuts on that flight.”
I mean the right fielder just stood and stared at it.
It easily cleared the fence atop the right field bleachers.
Who knows, that ball may be floating in the Tennessee River.
That’s serious power.
Said Richardson:”I think he’s direct to the ball. I mean he’s tall. He’s lanky. If you guys remember far back Darryl Strawberry. He was tall and lanky. He could hit the ball a long ways. It’s good to see. It’s fun to watch. For someone to do like that and be apart of that. It’s amazing. It brings so much excitement to the team. For the fans.
I think the opposing pitcher. He got something out of it too.”
Reporter:”What did he get out of it?”
Richardson:”I mean you see him. If you see his facial expression all you hear in his face is. He’s like wow.”
