Lookouts Get Walk Off Winner Against Pensacola For 7th Straight Victory
Chris Paul roped a walk-off single to give the Chattanooga Lookouts the 4-3 win over the Pensacola Blue Wahoos and extend their winning streak to seven games!
The game began precariously for the Lookouts as Pensacola scored one run and loaded the bases. Lookouts opener Sam Clay was able to get out of the inning only allowing one run. Lefty Anthony Marzi came into the game in the second inning for Clay. Marzi allowed a run in the second, but then fired off four straight scoreless innings.
Chattanooga tied the game up in the first inning on Brent Rooker’s 18th homer of the season. After falling behind they knotted the game up in the fifth inning on a Jaylin Davis RBI single. The score remained 2-2 until the ninth inning when Pensacola’s Luis Gonzalez doubled home Mitch Nay to take a 3-2 lead.
In the ninth inning Mitchell Kranson pinch-hit for Jimmy Kerrigan and smacked a game-tying homer. It was the Lookouts first pinch-hit homer since Ryan Adams did it in 2014.
After a strikeout, Tanner English hit a triple to prompt Pensacola to intentionally walk the bases loaded. With two outs Chris Paul stepped to the plate and delivered the game winning hit. The win extends the team’s winning streak to seven games and brings them within two games of .500 on the season.
In the win, outfielder Zander Wiel got on base two times to extend his on-base steak to 21 games. Wiel has now gotten on base in every game this month.
Tomorrow the Lookouts aim to extend their win streak to a season-high eight games. Southern League All-Star Omar Bencomo will take the mound against Valdimir Gutierrez. First pitch for the game is set for 7:15 p.m.
