Lookouts Nearly No-Hit in Falling 8-0 to Mississippi

The Chattanooga Lookouts only mustered two hits in their 8-0 loss to the Mississippi Braves in the series finale.

Before Mississipi’s offense exploded for eight runs, the two teams exchanged zeros. Lookouts starter Lyon Richardson threw three shutout innings and Carson Spiers followed that up with three more shutout frames.

For the Braves, starting pitcher Luis De Avila tossed five no-hit innings. After De Avila left the game, Victor Vodnik came in and carried the no-hitter into the seventh inning. Lookouts infielder Francisco Urbaez delivered this team’s first hit of the day with two outs in the seventh.

Prior to Chattanooga’s first hit, Mississippi broke up the shutout with a home run by Hudson Potts. They then added runs on an error, a single, and a fielder’s choice to make it 4-0.

The Braves added four more runs in the top of the ninth, capped off by a three-run homer by Tyler Tolve.

After an off day tomorrow, Chattanooga down to Birmingham for the first time this season. The Lookouts return home on July 25 against the Montgomery Biscuits.
