Lookouts Welcome Their New Ownership Group
The Chattanooga Lookouts welcomed their new owners on Wednesday.
Jason Freier and East Ridge native John Woods of Hardball Capital.
The group already owns two minor league teams, and they’re excited to make the Lookouts the newest addition to their baseball family.
Plenty of Chattanooga and Hamilton County dignitaries showed up to welcome the Lookouts new owners, and John Woods says the reception says a lot about the team.
"The more we did our due diligence and looked into this ball team and talked to people in the community, we realized how important this team is to this city."
Hardball Capital CEO Jason Freier also introduced over 15 others who will be apart of the ownership group, many with local ties.
So it appears the Lookouts are firmly planted in Chattanooga.
Said Freier,"Wouldn’t have made sense to bring in about 15 local Chattanooga people if the plan was to do anything other than keep the team here. The real reason we were excited about this team is the city of Chattanooga and the Chattanooga market."
Said Woods,"I just think the tradition of the Lookouts is a bigger brand tradition in minor league baseball than anywhere in the country.
The Lookouts will be the new Double-A home this season for the Minnesota Twins.
Said Freier,"We are certainly excited by the farm system the Minnesota Twins bring. This year in particular the Twins have been rated the number one farm system in the country by several publications. The level at which their talent is concentrated is really right about the Double-A level.
Now the new owners have a lot of work to do with the Lookouts home opener a little over a month away.
Said Freier,"One of the things we will certainly do is spend some money on some improved concessions equipment that will enable us to serve things fresher and serve a wider variety of food and that sort of thing."
The Lookouts home opener is Wednesday, April 15th at 7:15pm against Birmingham.
