MAINx24 street festival coming to Chattanooga Southside this Saturday
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — The MAINx24 parade and street festival, celebrating Chattanooga’s Southside, will begin on Saturday, December 2 and will last 24 hours.
MAINx24 has taken place on the first Saturday of December since 2007. It is comprised of more than 100 events over 24 hours.
Scheduled Events
The festival will start at 8 a.m. Saturday with breakfast specials at Niedlov’s Bakery and Conga. At 9 a.m., Shady’s Corner and Main Street Meats will offer breakfast specials as well.
An annual pancake breakfast will take place at Firehall #1, sponsored by RISE Chattanooga.
The MAINx24 EPB Southside Parade will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Main Street. The organization says it is Chattanooga’s biggest parade, having taken place for 17 years.
At 11 a.m., green|spaces will host the World Heavyweight Championship Chili Championship at 326 E. Main Street.
At noon, there will be an Adult Big Wheel Race in the Architectural Surfaces parking lot. The race will benefit SoundCorps.
Hi-Fi Clyde’s will have an all-day block party from 1 p.m. until 10 p.m.
The Signal will host Sparkle City Disco starting at 7 p.m.
The Backstage Bar will have live music on Station Street after the parade, starting with Danimal Planet. Tim Lewis Music will perform at 7 p.m.
The Comedy Catch will have a couple’s game called Love and Marriage from 10:3o to 11:30 p.m.
The Carpetbagger’s Comedy Night will take place at The Granfalloon from 10:30 to 11:30 p.m. as well.
Other Events
After the parade, the streets will be lined with crafts, shopping, music and food.
Organizers say shops will offer discounts and door prizes, and restaurants will have special menus.
The Comedy Catch will also have an all-ages show featuring Mr. Showtime.
Main Line Tattoo will host a Dolly Parton Christmas celebration and art show.
Clumpies Ice Cream will have a food truck, music, lawn games, hourly specials and a pinata game benefitting Toys for Tots. They will be set up in the alley outside their shop.
MAINx24 organizers say there will be many kid-friendly activities such as face painting as well.
Kids can also write letters to Santa at Scenic City Orthodontics.
Volkswagen Chattanooga employees have volunteered to assist crosswalk traffic. Pedestrians should look for crossing guards in safety vests at designated crosswalks.
