Major McClure plays trombone and rings bell for Salvation Army

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Every year, the national commander of the Salvation Army challenges each of the locations to raise $2 million in four hours.

The local chapter of The Salvation Army is calling on the community to join the effort to raise funds for services in the Chattanooga area amid the holidays and into the new year.

Major Douglas McClure, visited the Signal Mountain Walmart on Saturday to raise money.

“This is our largest fundraiser of the year. This is the time we raise the most money during the Christmas season. We’re known as the Christmas people. On top of our ‘Red Kettle’ campaign, we’re helping over 4,000 people with our Angel Tree program. Not to mention all of our homeless outreach services. So these things that help during Christmas actually help year-round. So it’s great to have people come out and support this program. We’re only halfway through so you have two more weeks to give to the Red Kettle, and we’d really like your support this year,” McClure said.

The major played his trombone along with ringing the well-known bells for the Salvation Army.
