Man arrested in Jackson County for using identity of deceased man to purchase over 2 dozen firearms
JACKSON COUNTY, Al. (WDEF) — A man has been arrested in Jackson County for identity theft after using a false identity to purchase firearms.
On October 2, 2024, personnel with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) arrested a male suspect for Possession of a Controlled Substance (Meth/Fentanyl).
Upon further investigation, JCSO determined the name and personal identification the suspect used belonged to a deceased male.
The suspect was later identified as Stuart Jeffery Sandrock.
JCSO said Sandrock had been convicted of Soliciting to Commit Murder in San Diego in 1993.
On June 16, 2025, JCSO served a search warrant at Sandrock’s Flat Rock residence.
Authorities recovered 33 firearms, suppressors, thousands of round of ammunition, and documents in the name of the deceased person Sandrock was identifying as.
Sandrock was arrested and charged with the following:
- Identity Theft (7 Counts)
- Obstructing Justice Using False Identity
- Certain Person’s Forbidden to Possess Firearms
- Possession of Short Barreled Rifle (2 counts)
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
JCSO says additional charges are being pursued at this time.
Sandrock is being held at the Jackson County Jail on a $45,500 bond.
