Man dies in fatal crash on Hickory Street

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) —  A fatal traffic accident claimed the life of a 49-year-old man Monday evening.

On February 10, 202, at 6:55 p.m., officers with the Chattanooga Police Department (CPD) responded to the 2900 block of Hickory Street for a motor vehicle crash.

Upon arrival, officers located the crash, involving a 2005 Jeep Liberty and a 2001 Honda Accord.

According to CPD, the driver of the Accord, a 49-year-old male, was found with life-threatening injuries.

He was later transported by EMS to a local hospital where he later died.

The driver and passenger of the Liberty didn’t report any injuries on scene.

CPD’s Traffic Unit responded to the scene to conduct an investigation into the crash.

Their preliminary investigation reveals the Liberty was traveling north on Hickory Street with the Accord traveling south.

The Liberty suddenly veered into the southbound lane, striking the Accord head-on.

CPD stated the driver of the Accord was unrestrained at the time of the collision.

CPD’s Traffic Unit is still working to learn why the Liberty crossed the roadway.
