Man Killed After Freight Train Hits His Pickup Truck In Dade County
Sheriff Ray Cross,"Bystanders say the guy did not see or hear the train coming and the train struck him on the passenger side"
Sheriff Ray Cross says units from across North Georgia responded immediately.
"Ya we got GSP working the wreck, Georgia State Patrol and we got a couple of our fire departments here in North Dade and I believe Trenton responded"
The freight train had sounded its horn repeatedly while the truck remained in the middle of the railroad crossing.
It moved the truck a quarter of a mile down the track before it could make a complete stop.
Traffic along Highway 11 was held up for a number of hours with one lane open
Some local residents could not get home.
"It been a dead end street, when the train has a problem you have to sit and wait you cant get in or out"
Rhonda says anyone who lives near a railway line needs to take care.
"Be careful and make sure you stop before you go over the train track and look both ways, its very dangerous"
The line was cleared later on in the evening and engineers inspected the damage.
