Man wanted for rape arrested in Cleveland after standoff
BRADLEY COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — Hamilton and Bradley County authorities worked together in a standoff to capture a man wanted for a rape case. The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) said they found the suspect at a home in Cleveland, Tennessee.
HCSO identified the suspect as 39-year-old Ayodeji Olamide Ajayi.
The sheriff’s office did not give details into his original crimes, but they explained the arrest of the man and his charges.
Ajayi refused to surrender to law enforcement, according to the sheriff’s office. They spoke with Ajayi over the phone, and he told deputies he had a gun and “was going to act in a way that would force law enforcement to kill him, ” HCSO explained.
After a lengthy standoff, Ajayi peacefully surrendered. Deputies found him in possession of a toy BB gun that resembled a real firearm.
Deputies booked him into the Hamilton County Jail.
He faces the following charges.
- Four counts of aggravated rape
- One count of rape
- Aggravated burglary
- Sexual battery
- Aggravated kidnapping
- Domestic assault
