Marion Co Utilizing High Tech Vests to Measure Body Performance

Jasper, TN-(WDEF-TV) The Marion County football team is going high tech.
They’re using a special vest to measure a player’s performance and out-put.
News 12’s Brian Armstrong tackles the technological Warriors.

Marion County football has lost just one regular season game in the last two seasons.

Said senior Brayden Coffelt:”We’re the class. I don’t know. We’ve always been the class that’s gonna hopefully get that state championship.”

One thing that helps the team is how they train.

Said head coach Tim Starkey:”This vest is like a speed tracker. Tell you your miles per hour and a bunch of other stuff. The kicker with it is it tracks so much stuff, just not how fast they run, but like how much energy they’ve burned. We practice with them on every day. So once we practice, we can see kind of where they’re at at the end of practice. So on a Friday night, when we get ready to warm up with them on, and we can see exactly where they’re at.”

This allows them to track how much work each player is doing and where their peak performance is.

Said Starkey:”When these guys are working, uh, when they’re in the weight room and they’re pushing and how much energy they’ve burned, uh, it’s been really good and the kids have taken it and ran with it.”

The technology also provides another way for players to compete against one another.

Said Coffelt:”The 20 MPH club, then we got 21, then we got 22. So everyone’s just trying to race each other, beat each other to climb the ladder, be the fastest guy. See how fast they are and kind of see whose burst is quicker. It just tracks so many different things. ”

All of this leading to a team looking to make a state title push.
