Mayor hopes City Council will vote on South Broad project tonight

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Chattanooga Mayor Tim Kelly spoke Tuesday morning on Let’s Chatt and discussed the South Broad project.

This is what Mayor Kelly had to say about the current status of the project:

“Well, there have been a lot of discussions … about the South Broad project, which is the new Lookout Stadium and all the development around that. We’ll transform that entire area, which is currently just a big rusty brown field. So, we’ll see. I think the conversations are ongoing. I hope the vote happens tonight. If it doesn’t, then it’ll happen next week. We’ll stay after it until it gets done.”

Chattanooga City Council will meet Tuesday afternoon. One item on their agenda is the South Broad project.

During one of the last meetings, Mayor Kelly and Chairman Jeff Eversole proposed a final stadium plan. This plan dropped the cost of the stadium.

The hefty cost with inflation is a big reason for the ongoing dispute over the project.

There have been several meetings in city council, county commission and town halls to discuss concerns.

The city of Chattanooga and Hamilton County have had several disagreements regarding the stadium project. Hamilton County Mayor Weston Wamp has voiced his concerns with the pricing of the stadium.
