McCallie Basketball Coach Steve Robison Steps Down

(press release) McCallie Head Basketball Coach Steve Robison has announced to school administrators that he is resigning from his position effective immediately.

Robison directed the Blue Tornado basketball program in 2022-23 and 2023-24. Before being named the head coach, he served as an assistant coach on the McCallie staff for four seasons.

“I am grateful for Coach Robison and his leadership and service,” Head of School Lee Burns said. “He is a man of great character who led our basketball program well. We will miss him and wish him all the best.”

As the head coach, Robison guided the varsity team to a 9-16 record in 2022-23 and a 17-8 record this past season. The 2023-24 squad won the annual Times Free Press Best of Preps area tournament in December.

“I am truly grateful for the opportunity that I have had to coach and teach at McCallie over the last six years,” Robison said. “I am excited for the future of the basketball program, but I just know that it is the right time for me to retire from coaching.”

A native of Philadelphia, Pa., Robison was a three-time All-American at Tennessee Temple University. In addition to overseeing the basketball program at McCallie, he also taught computer skills.

“Steve is a tremendous teacher of the game of basketball and an even better person,” Athletic Director Kenny Sholl said. “Personally I wish Steve could have remained in this role, but I respect his thoughtful approach to this decision and truly wish him the very best.”

“We look forward to finding an outstanding, mission-fit person to lead the basketball program at this great school.”

McCallie will begin an immediate search for finding McCallie’s next head coach.

“Serving as the varsity basketball coach at McCallie is an outstanding opportunity, and we anticipate many talented coaches will be interested in pursuing the position,” Burns said.
