McCallie Football Team Hopes to Improve on Last Year’s 6-6 Record

Chattanooga-(WDEF) McCallie proved they could light up the scoreboard last year, but unfortunately, many of their opponents also scored at a high rate.
Maybe a new defensive coordinator can help the Blue Tornado improve on last season’s 6-6 record.
McCallie scored 40 or more points six times last season, and they have one of their trigger men back in Robert Riddle.
Said head coach Ralph Potter-“Robert’s strength is his passing game. He is a great play-action pass quarterback and a great sprint-out quarterback.”
Said Riddle-“Coach Potter always talks about how we are trying to get it out of my hands as quickly as possible into the skill-position players hands. I can definitely trust them with the ball.”
Rico Dozier is one of those dynamic skill players, who is also lethal in the return game.
Said Potter-“It has got to be a special guy that does that. It has got to be a guy that does not have any fear. It’s a little nerve-wracking to catch the ball and have everybody run down there at you.”
McCallie would love a nerve-wracking defense too.
They brought in new coordinator Ricky Ross, the former Marion County head coach.
Said defensive end Giovanni Hightower-“I think he brought a lot of excitement to the defense. We see it in practice. Everyday we are getting a lot better.”
When you play in the upper ranks of Division two, you know you’ll face some talented play-makers.
Said Ross-“What an opportunity to get to challenge yourself. It’s like I tell them, do you want to be good? We want to be great. So we get an opportunity to go against great.”
McCallie did not pitch a shut-out last year, but Coach Ross hopes to change that this season.
Said Ross-“Everywhere I’ve ever been, they know that if we shut folks out, we get treats, whether it’s doughnuts, brownies, or whatever it is. So yeah, that’s one of the goals we have every week.”
Reporter-“Have you settled on the treats yet for this year?”
Said Ross-“Yeah, I think coach (Potter) said his wife is going to make brownies, so we’re going to do brownies this year.”
