McCallie Looks For Second State Title Over Rival Baylor
Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) McCallie beat Baylor for the state title last year at Finley Stadium.
Red Raiders then got revenge during the regular season in October.
Now Big Blue seeks redemption, as the Chattanooga rivals battle again Thursday in the state finals.
Fans go nuts for the Baylor-McCallie rivalry game.
But a state title showdown between the Blue Tornado and Red Raiders is a different vibe.
Said head coach Joel Bradford:”The rival game against Baylor has already passed. Our mindset is this is a championship.”
Said receiver Carson Lawrence:”Rivalry is more like in the regular season. Now there’s more at stake. We just want to win a title.”
Turnovers were a killer for McCallie in their loss to Baylor.
They had three interceptions.
Said Bradford:”Anytime you turn the ball over against a team. Against a good team. It’s going to cost you.”
McCallie was down 27-0 at the half.
Can’t afford a deficit like that against an offense like Baylor’s.
Said Lawrence:”They’ve got a great back. Couple of great backs. Great linemen. Their defense is solid, so they’re just good all around.”
Over 18-thousand showed up for the Baylor-McCallie title game last year.
Should be another massive crowd at Finley Stadium on Thursday.
Said Bradford:”Yes it’s great that it’s two rival schools in the state championship at Finley Stadium in Chattanooga. There’s nothing better than that. I tell them to embrace that. it’s something you will remember forever.”
Kickoff is set for 7pm Thursday at Finley Stadium.
