McCallie Prepares For Playoff Semifinal Rematch With MBA
Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) McCallie is back in a familiar spot.
The state semifinals.
Big Blue is making their seventh straight appearance in the playoff semifinals, where they’ll once again face a familiar opponent in MBA.
Baylor is obviously McCallie’s biggest rival, but MBA has to factor in the mix as well.
Said head coach Ralph Potter:”We’ve played them I don’t know probably ten times in the last six years or something like that. So when you play somebody that much, it’s kind of an ongoing battle.”
Back in September, Big Blue beat Big Red 35-0. It was McCallie’s first win over MBA at Spears Stadium since 2006.
Reporter:”Did it have that feeling that it has been awhile since we have beaten them in Chattanooga.”
Said Potter:”Didn’t even have a thought about that.” (chuckles)
Reporter:”What do you remember about that game. It was a pretty dominating victory for you guys 35-0. Solid win.”
Said Potter:”Ah yeah. We’d take another one.”
Since falling to McCallie, MBA has won four of their last five games.
Said Potter:”They’re just MBA. Marty does a great job with them. Their defensive coaches do a great job. They’re extremely well coached. They play really hard. They hang into games. They beat Lipscomb Academy you know that beat us.”
MBA eliminated McCallie in the semifinals last year.
The Blue Tornado scored with 45 seconds left and failed on a two point conversion as they lost 28-27.
Said McMahan:”Honestly I still kind of think about it just to give a little extra like drive to my game.”
Said Potter:”Just the fact that we got beat in the semifinals last year. Obviously we know what’s at stake, and we don’t want to experience that again.”
Coach Potter likes the way his team is playing heading into Friday’s semifinal.
Said Potter:”I mean we looked pretty good last Friday night. We looked fresh. I think our guys obviously are focused. We don’t have much longer to go. So they want to win and do well.”
