Mckamey Animal Shelter adopt 250 event

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — McKamey Animal Shelter is running an adoption event till march 8th.

They have a new adoption goal.

James Kay is the director of advancement for McKamey Animal Shelter.

He says, “We initially launched this campaign, Mac 250 for what it sounds like. We want to adopt 250 animals in four weeks. We are now about two weeks into that campaign and have adopted a little bit more than 100 animals so far so we still have a lot of room to grow.”

The reason behind this lofty goal is to open up more space inside of the shelter.

Kay says, “The reason for doing it right now is that as I’m sure the community has seen for the last few years we’ve been operating in a very critical capacity. As kitten and puppy season continues to be bigger and bigger each year, we are doing our best to get more space for humane kenneling. For our facility here that is 175 dog kennels and 50 cat kennels.”

There are multiple ways to help out McKamey during this event.

“Not everyone can adopt in this moment in time. There may be people in your life that have been thinking about adopting. We obviously have our slumber parties that if you’re unsure on committing fully to adopting, you can take an animal home for the night, for a couple nights, for a week, to get to know them outside of the shelter space here. You know there’s fostering opportunities, there’s spreading the word, there’s donating to our cause and all of those things help us with this campaign specifically,” says Kay.

To celebrate the event there will be a big finale.

Kay says, “We will have a grand finale event on the weekend of the eighth so if we’re, you know, just 20 dogs short or 10 dogs short , where we really try to get the last bit of  the numbers out.”
