McLemore Making Way For a New 18 Hole Mountain Top Golf Course
Rising Fawn, GA-(WDEF-TV) The scenic 18th hole at McLemore has been rated one of the best finishing holes in golf.
Now the club is adding even more scenic holes, as construction has started on a brand new 18 hole course.
It’s pretty easy taking in the views of the 18th hole at the McLemore and the land it sits on.
Said McLemore Chairman Duane Horton:”We have McLemore Cove here. It’s the largest historical land district in the state of Georgia. Then that mountain is Pigeon Mountain. It’s the largest wildlife management area in the entire state.
And if you’re Duane Horton and have access to more of this incredible mountain top property.
Yeah. why not build another course. As you can see across the valley from the number one tee at McLemore, clearing has started on a new 18.
Said Horton:”We are calling it the Outpost at McLemore. Just the way it’s shaped. Comes in and out. We are going to have these structures to support golf, and they are going to look like an outpost that may have been there back from the frontier days. We are going to have five holes on the cliff edge parrel to the cliff, but we are going to be a links inspired kind of design where all the holes are pushed up against the cliff. So you will have views from every hole off the mountain at somewhere on every hole.”
The architects of the 18th at McLemore are designing the Outpost.
Said Horton:”So I’ll never forget the first time I took Bill Bergen and Rees Jones to see the property. They were just all smiles. You could see it in their eyes, and they are very excited about this opportunity, and we are excited to work them again as well. Within two years from now we hope to have it open for the general public. We may have a softer opening earlier for members and some special guests.”
