McMinn crash involves assault, gunshot, drugs
MCMINN COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — A Monday morning car crash involving four people resulted in two of them being injured and one being on the run. The incident involved a gunshot and drugs as well.
McMinn County Sheriff Joe Guy said deputies responded to a call of a wreck at 9 a.m. This was at the intersection of County Roads 100 and 110.
The sheriff’s office is still working to find out what exactly happened, but they did reveal some information.
Sheriff Joe Guy said a UPS driver noticed the wreck and reported that three men and one woman were arguing.
“One male claimed he had been injured by the others and another male claimed he’d been shot. When they realized deputies were on the way, the two injured males and the female left the scene in a separate vehicle together and the other male ran off on foot,” Sheriff Guy said.
Authorities found three of the four suspects involved.
Sheriff Guy believes someone in the group assaulted Daniel Ferguson, and then Ferguson shot Tommy Conn.
They first found Ferguson at a nearby home. The sheriff said Ferguson had been assaulted and had a head injury. Responders took him to a hospital, and charges are pending against him.
Hours later, deputies found Kelsey Roberts and Tommy Conn in the woods nearby. They arrested Roberts and charged her with an active violation of probation. She also had warrants out of Meigs County.
The sheriff’s office still has Roberts in custody without bond.
First responders took Conn to a hospital for the treatment of his gunshot wound. Sheriff Guy said charges are pending against him as well.
Authorities believe the fourth suspect involved is Peyton Adam Womac. They described him as a white man with scruffy brown hair and a beard. Sheriff Guy believes someone picked up Womac shortly after the crash.
They are asking anyone who knows Womac’s whereabouts to contact the sheriff’s office.
“The whole thing was related to the vehicle crash and may also involve drug issues because a large quantity of narcotics was also recovered at the scene. We are still investigating the incident and attempting to put the pieces together,” Sheriff Guy said.
