McVeagh grateful after winning Circuit Court nomination

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Hamilton County Judge Alex McVeagh has won the Republican nomination for Hamilton County Circuit Court Judge.

McVeagh defeated attorney Michelle Coffman by nearly 5,000 votes.

In the immediate aftermath of the win, McVeagh said that he felt, “Well, certainly exhausted, but the adrenaline is rushing right now. I’m just so thankful for everyone that turned out, the volunteers, the donors who contributed to my campaign, and ultimately the voters who have selected me to be the Republican nominee. I’m just truly grateful and at a loss for words.”

McVeagh discussed his opponent and the upcoming August general election, saying, “All along, first I want to compliment my opponent in this race, Michelle Coffman. She’s an outstanding attorney and she ran a great campaign, but all along I guess my message has been that our next Circuit Court Judge is somebody that has proven themself on the bench. I have served this county for seven years as a county judge and I think that I’m the most qualified to step up as a Circuit Court Judge, so proven judicial experience is what I have run on and I’ll continue to run on.”

McVeagh added his appreciation to his supporters and voters saying, “Again, I can’t thank you enough. Judge races don’t get a lot of press, a lot of attention, but they are so important. Local elections matter. These races matter. So, I can’t believe how many people have shown up tonight and the voters that turned out today in the terrible weather to cast their vote.”

He will face Democratic nominee Kisha Cheeks in the August general election.
