Medical Debt forgiven for thousands of families across Northwest Georgia

ROCK SPRING, GA (WDEF) – A local church is making a monumental difference in the lives of many in our community by partnering with a nonprofit organization to eliminate medical debt.

It’s a story of hope and generosity. Peavine Baptist Church, located in Rock Spring, Georgia, teamed up with the nonprofit organization Undue Medical Debt to address the heavy financial burden faced by local families.

Together, they’ve erased $5.7 million in unpaid medical bills for 4,200 individuals and families in northwest Georgia and surrounding areas.

The effort was made possible through donations from church members and the community, which were used to purchase the outstanding debts at a fraction of their value.

According to Undue Medical Debt, this method allows a single dollar to forgive about $100 of medical debt. Families and individuals who once faced the stress and anxiety of unpaid medical bills are now receiving letters in the mail informing them that their debt has been forgiven – no strings attached.

This act of compassion is part of Peavine Baptist Church’s broader outreach efforts to serve the community. As medical debt remains a major challenge for millions across the nation, this partnership is an inspiring example of how a local initiative can make a life-changing impact.
