Megan Johnson’s Health Journey: How TikTok Helped Uncover a Ovarian Cyst

CHATTANOOGA,TN (WDEF)- For four years, Megan Johnson believed she was dealing with *diastasis recti*, a common condition involving the separation of abdominal muscles. Her stomach was persistently swollen, and no matter what she tried, the bulging never subsided. Something felt off—but she couldn’t quite put her finger on it.

That changed when she turned to TikTok.

What began as a personal story shared on the platform quickly turned into a community-driven diagnosis. “I just had this army of women surround me on TikTok saying, ‘This was our experience too—we think you should go get checked out,’” Megan recalled. “They really pushed me and encouraged me. I went to the ER, had blood work and CT scans—and they found a massive ovarian cyst. They were right. TikTok helped me find out what was going on.”

Thanks to the support and concern from her online followers, Megan is now preparing for surgery to have the cyst removed. She’s also using her platform to share every step of her journey, with the hope that her experience can help other women recognize when something might be seriously wrong.

“I didn’t actually go and get a professional diagnosis right away,” Megan admitted. “I’m hoping I can share my story so people can see the symptoms and realize they need to get this checked—or just be more proactive.”

Megan’s courage and transparency have sparked an important conversation about women’s health, self-advocacy, and the surprising power of social media to amplify life-saving messages.
