Meigs Co Softball Coach Jeff Davis Not Surprised by Success of Former Player Ashley Rogers

Decatur, TN-(WDEF-TV) The Lady Vols face Alabama tomorrow in the College Softball World Series. Former Meigs County pitcher Ashley Rogers has been a huge part of Tennessee’s success. She rocked the lowest ERA in the SEC this season at 0.75. Brian Armstrong caught up with her high school coach Jeff Davis, who isn’t surprised by Rogers achievements.\

Said Davis: “Ashley’s a once in a lifetime player and she’s just a good a person, student, teammate as she is a player.”

Said Davis: “They’ve been on the verge of going ever since she’s been up there and she’s battled through some injuries at key times and we’re just really glad that she is finally going to get to do it.”
Rogers’ former high school softball coach Jeff Davis isn’t surprised by all of Roger’s success because she has been a special player for the entire time he’s known her.
Said Davis: “Tenacity if she’s hurt, she’s not going to tell you she’s hurt.She’s going to play through pain, which I don’t know if that’s a good thing or a bad thing, but we just quit asking her in high school if she was hurt, hurting anywhere, because she wouldn’t tell you anyway.But she’s just a team leader in every way.”
Rogers has been a dominant player both at the high school level and as a Lady Fall.She won multiple awards, including being named to the first All SEC team.
Said Davis: “She hates losing and she’s definitely going to put the work in to do her best not to lose.”
Rogers also still makes time to comeback and visit her high school team.
Said Davis: “Our players now were in probably middle school we she was there and they’re just amazed and she always comes back inthe fall for watches a middle school game or two.We actually coach first base at the middle school game and the other team could hardly function because she was on the field and they were amazed by her.”
