Members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Celebrate 108 Years of Service
Chattanooga, TN (WDEF) – The lovely ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. are still celebrating Founder’s Day here in the Scenic City. Today the Phi Omega and Zeta Kappa Chapters held an event at Orchard Knob Missionary Baptist Church, celebrating the Sorority’s international Founder’s Day (Jan. 15).
The event was open to the public, and more than 80 women filled the church to hear remarks and watch a performance, put on by the lovely ladies, titled AKA: The Journey.
“It’s important for us to spread the news, and let them know that we are in service to all mankind," said Pi Omega’s President, Terryl James, "We’re not just a pretty organization. We’re here to be in service to others, and we have community projects that we work on. We have target initiatives, we’re busy all year doing work in the community and acknowledging others who need our help.”
Alpha Kappa Alpha was founded January 15, 1908, on the campus of Howard University by a group of twenty women.
