Mercy Junction Hold Prayer Protest Against Senator Todd Gardenhire Outside Pachyderm Club
More than a dozen protestors sang and prayed outside the Pachyderm club Monday afternoon.
They believe State Senator Todd Gardenhire has left a quarter of a million Tennesseans without insurance after he refused to support plans for Insure Tennessee earlier this month.
David Benn,"I’m here because I believe there are a lot of people are being left behind in this society and these folks are responsible."
"I am disabled and I am on Medicare and as of December of 2014 medication for me has been denied because now i will have to pay full amount for medication" says William Nix.
Father Brian Merritt of Mercy Junction led a passionate prayer as other protestors shouted at the Senator as he made his way into the Pachyderm Club.
"Even in the depth of death, you are there, you claim to burn hot for the poor and side with the oppressed."
Some activists in costume, who are part of satirical group Millionaires for Wealthcare made it inside the Pachyderm Club and claimed to support the Senator.
Katheryn Roberts, Fictional Character Speaking For Satirical Group Millionaires for Wealthcare,"It’s not sustainable, it’s not acceptable, we stand by his American’s for Prosperity, Koch Brothers, Tea Party Values in saying just let them die."
Gardenhire believes Governor Haslam is trying to rush Insure TN and feels it would be better to wait at least until the summer and see how much the extra coverage will cost the state.
The protestors feel their research shows than Gardenhire has left 25,000 in Hamilton and Bradley County without health insurance.
