Meth supplier arrested following investigation

A man has been arrested for supplying meth following an investigation by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office and Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.

Rennie Davenport, 63, of Hayesville, NC, was taken into custody at his residence on April 2, 2026, according to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.

At the time of his arrest, Davenport was found in possession of more than 300 grams of methamphetamine.

They say investigators have identified Davenport as a major source of supply contributing to the distribution of methamphetamine throughout Clay and Cherokee counties.

A second individual, Kevin Durden, remains at large.
Durden fled law enforcement and was later hospitalized in North Georgia following a motorcycle crash sustained during his attempt to evade capture.
He subsequently escaped from the hospital and is currently being sought on outstanding charges, according to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.
They ask anyone with information regarding Durden’s whereabouts is to contact their local law enforcement agency.
