Midfield Drive fire claims life of 78-year-old woman
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — A house fire that occurred on the evening of November 8, 2024 has claimed the life of a 78-year-old woman.
Firefighters with the Chattanooga Fire Department (CFD) were dispatched to the 7300 block of Midfield Drive at 5:36 p.m.
9-1-1 received frantic calls from the resident that she was trapped inside her home and was unable to see due to the amount of smoke.
Upon arrival, CFD reported smoke coming out of the eaves and ridge line of the roof.
Further assessment revealed a blackened kitchen window with smoke coming out.
Firefighters entered the residence through the front door.
They were able to locate the 78-year-old woman on the kitchen floor unconscious.
Firefighters were able to get her outside the resident, and Hamilton County EMS transported her to a hospital with critical injuries.
CFD reported Sunday, November 10, 2024, the victim succumbed to her injuries at the Vanderbilt Burn Center.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
