Ministry Gives Blankets and Clothes to Homeless
Which means people without homes must brace the cold temps unprepared.
That’s why one local man has stepped up to help Chattanooga’s homeless prepare for the frigid weather.
Jonathan Bond, a Christian music artist along with his team of volunteers, made sure Chattanooga’s homeless can stay warm this winter.
They stood outside near Chattanooga’s Community Kitchen and gave out blankets and warm clothes.
Bond said people too often take what they have for granted.
"We’re comfortable in our home and we cover up when it’s cold and we take the cover off when we don’t need it. But a lot people out here don’t have the blankets. They’re cold continuously."
Bond and his music ministry team have been handing out blankets and warm clothes the week after Thanksgiving in the Scenic City for the past five years.
They also make trips to Nashville, Knoxville, and Atlanta.
Gospel singer Brenda Denney described one moment from the day of giving, that she said, touched her heart.
"There were people that had tears in their eyes. One family just walked up and had holding a little baby. The baby did not have any socks on so we grabbed a pair of socks and put it on the little child."
Denney said some people refused a blanket and clothes.
Instead they asked for something more spiritual.
"People came up asking for prayer.they didn’t want a blanket, but they wanted prayer."
No matter what someone may have been through, Bond said there is still a need to help those who cannot help themselves.
"These are people. They’re people that, may be have made bad choices or gone the wrong direction, but nonetheless, they’re still people."
Jequala Mavry…who has been experiencing homelessness for the past few years, said that having people coming out to help means all the world to her.
"It means a lot because, I’ve been by myself a long time and some times I can’t ask for what I need to get. Being abandoned is not like a good feeling, but when you see people that really just care…that have a good heart…and they’re doing it from their heart."
