Murphy’s Law Hits the Mocs in SoCon Showdown Loss to Mercer

Macon, GA-(WDEF-TV) The Mocs could have gained control of the SoCon with a win over Mercer Saturday in Macon, but UTC could never seemingly control the football against the Bears. Turnovers and miscues hampered the Mocs offense.
Ailym Ford basically willed Chattanooga’s offense into the end zone in the second quarter on this tough 10-yard run. That made it 6-0. Yes the PAT was no good.
Mercer though answered on their following series, scoring on this touchdown toss.
Mocs were down 7-6 at the break.
Third quarter, Mocs trying to cash in after an 85 yard interception by Ty Boeck.
Third and goal. Cole Copeland to Chris James. Almost a touchdown.
UTC settles for the chip shot field goal from Aaron Sears.
It’s no good.
Mocs missed three kicks on the day.
Fourth quarter.
Copeland goes deep, and it’s picked off.
Mocs 5th turnover of the day.

Said head coach Rusty Wright:”You can’t turn it over five times against anyone. That’s something we haven’t done here in I don’t know how long. You can’t do it.”
It went from bad to worse.
After Mercer went up four on a field goal with a buck-30 left, check out the ensuing kickoff. Are you kidding me. When it rains. It pours.
Mercer had only 163 yard of total offense, yet they win 10-6.
Said Wright:”You give up 10 points in a college football game. You should win. Haven’t had a whole lot of adversity in the last four weeks. You now. Had it all today. Got a bunch today. You know. That’s the thing. We’re going to play in football games like this for a long time, and we’ve got to go figure out how to get it done.”

Chattanooga is now 5-2 in the SoCon standings. They trail Mercer and ETSU who are both 6-1. Those two teams play each other next week. Mocs close out the regular season against the Citadel.
