Mix of Football and Engineering Studies Earn Mocs OL Bryce Goodner ‘Presidential’ Status

Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) When you’re a college football player with a heavy class load, sometimes you need a little lift.
That’s the case for Mocs offensive lineman Bryce Goodner.
The McMinn Co native literally gets a little lift once a week, to accommodate his studies and football commitments.

Balancing football and engineering.
It ain’t easy brother.
Said Goodner:”I’m an electrical engineer. Innately. Football and engineering doesn’t tend to like play well with each other. The engineering department is smaller here compared to other departments. So whenever those professors decide to have class is when we have class.”
On Wednesdays…Goodner has a class that doesn’t get done until well after practice has started.
Uh-oh.
So Goodner gets picked up and drivin’ to practice like a rock star.
Goodner:”Just kind of have to hustle out of the class building. One of our ladies is sitting there. She picks me up and drives me on down to the practice field. I just hop out, and everyone gives me crap. Calling me like ‘Mr. President’ and all that.”
EL Presidente has arrived.
Give him some room people.
Goodner:”I’m holding all my gear. Got my backpack on and my glasses still. I’ve got to throw my stuff down. I go over, and it’s like a little pit stop car crew. Getting my ankles taped. My braces on. Tying my cleats. Putting on all my stuff. Strapping me up. I tell people. It’s kind of surreal just going from being in class to doing scout period in like 5 minutes, but it’s fun.”
While Goodner is kind of embarrassed by the special treatment, he appreciates the entire opportunity he has at U-T Chattanooga.
Goodner:”I still get to go to school and do all of this, and it’s pretty cool. Just getting to be with the guys. I don’t know how. Like I told them the other day. I don’t know how much y’all think I like everyone around here, but I love y’all. It’s just fun to be around. Just a good time to be with the dudes.”
