Mocs Add Two Players to Football Roster Including Cleveland Native Dy’Kari Hickey

(GoMocs.com) UTC head football coach Russ Huesman announced the addition of two student-athletes to the Mocs’ roster today. Defensive back Dy’Kari (pronounced dah-CAR-eee) Hickey and offensive lineman Cole Strange are suiting up for tomorrow’s first practice at Scrappy Moore Field.

Hickey (6-0, 175) is a transfer from Hancock College in Santa Maria, Calif., and has two years of eligibility remaining. He is a native of Cleveland, Tenn., but played prep football at Hillgrove High School in Powder Springs, Ga., where he graduated in 2014. He was a teammate of current Mocs Richardre Bagley and Nakevion Leslie at Hillgrove.

Strange (6-5, 255) is a two-star prep prospect from Farragut Academy in Knoxville, Tenn. He earned all-state honors and was a two-star prospect according to Rivals.com and 247Sports.com.

Hickey played mostly on offense his last season at Hancock College. There he had nine catches for 171 yards and two scores. He also had 42 carries for 169 yards and four TDs, all in eight games of action. He started his career as a defensive back for the Bulldogs.

Strange had 96 tackles, 18 TFLs and 7.5 sacks for the Admirals during the 2015 season. He was also recruited by Air Force and Army.

The Mocs open training camp on Wednesday, Aug. 3, at 3:00 p.m. (E.D.T.) at Scrappy Moore Field. UTC opens the season on Thursday, Sept. 1, against Shorter at 7:00 p.m. at Finley Stadium.
