Mocs Anxious to Bounce Back Following First Loss of the Year
Chattanooga-(WDEF) Chattanooga dropped from third to 8th in the latest FCS rankings following their loss to the Citadel.
Despite the setback, the Mocs are still in position to make the playoffs and even earn a first-round bye.
Even though Chattanooga allowed over 300-yards rushing to the Citadel’s option attack, Mocs coach Russ Huesman wasn’t too disappointed.
Said head coach Russ Huesman:”You know I don’t think they had a play. They may not have had a play over 10-yards. If they did, it was probably one.”
Sometimes Saturday’s game looked like a rugby scrum instead of football.
Reporter: Can you even see who has the ball sometimes from your defensive end position?
Chuckles defensive end Keionta Davis:”I think you just hit people, and you hope they have the ball. Honestly you just go in there and hit whoever you think has the ball.”
Chattanooga can’t wait to bounce back from their first loss of the year.
Said Davis:”Right after the game I was like, I’m ready to play another one. I could have played another game like two seconds after that game.”
Said Huesman:”Feels like forever since we’ve won a game in my mind. It’s tough because it just happened. Obviously we won the week before, but I can’t wait to play another game.
Said receiver C.J. Board:”I don’t think you go about anything different. I think now we have a chip on our shoulder, and we have to keep working every week.”
If the Mocs beat VMI on Saturday, it will give this year’s senior class the most wins in school history over a four year period.
Said Davis:”Just to have that experience under our belt now. We know what it takes to actually win a big game. It’s going to help us.”
Said Huesman-“Sometimes you take winning for granted, and you can’t. Every game is hard. Every game is new. When you win one, you need to be excited about it. They’ll go back to work I guarantee you this week, and we’ll play hard again this Saturday.”
The Mocs and VMI kick at 2pm at Finley Stadium. UTC starting running back Derrick Craine is listed as questionable with an ankle injury.
