Mocs Back From Bye Week to Face Rival Furman

Chattanooga-(WDEF) The Mocs are the only ranked team in the Southern Conference. But when UTC hosts SoCon rival Furman this weekend, they’ll be lining up against a Paladins bunch that can easily bully a ranked team.

Even though the Mocs didn’t play last week, they’re still making school history. UTC is ranked sixth in the latest FCS coaches poll, the highest mark the Mocs have ever enjoyed.
Said head coach Russ Huesman,"If we don’t play well. If we don’t win football games, then that will be short-lived. There’s no hiding it. We’re not going to break the huddle today, saying we’re number six in the country type of deal."
Added offensive lineman Corey Levin,"It’s pretty cool, but like coach said, it’s just a number. We still have games to win or else that isn’t anything at all."
Furman is not ranked with a 3-2 record.
But one loss was to Virginia Tech, and the other was to number one ranked Coastal Carolina.
Said Huesman,"One thing about them is their record is probably not indicative of how good they are."
Said Levin,"You know if you are playing the Furman Paladins, you’re playing a good football team."
Said defensive lineman Taylor Reynolds,"You know it’s Furman. They’re good every year. We’ve got to have a good week of preparation and be ready on Saturday."
Chattanooga has rushed for 250-plus yards in their last three games. First time that has happened since 1980. Quarterback Jacob Huesman is the Mocs leading rusher, and he’s running smart.
Said Russ Huesman,"He could have more yards rushing, if he didn’t slide or go out-of-bounds. Now a few years ago, he never would slide. He would never run out-of-bounds. Just took shot-after-shot-after-shot. I think he has kind of figured out he feels a lot better after games when he slides a little bit."
Chattanooga and Furman kick at 1pm at Finley Stadium. Mocs defensive lineman Vantrel McMillan is back with the team following his suspension last month for public intoxication and gun possession.
