CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Chattanooga senior Kendall Forsythe drove in two runs in the bottom of the sixth for the Mocs fourth straight victory by run-rule, beating Austin Peay 8-0 Wednesday night at Frost Stadium and extending their winning streak to nine games.

Kailey Snell led off the sixth with a single through the left side and advanced to second on a sac bunt by Camryn Cernuto. A ground out to the shortstop moved her to third. Baileigh Pitts was hit by a pitch to put runners on the corners. With a 1-1 count to Forsythe, Pitts stole second to move into scoring position.

On a full count, Forsythe fired a shot through the left side. Snell scored easily and the throw home was wide as Pitts crossed the plate for the Mocs eighth run and the win.

A weather delay called a halt to action in the bottom of the third. With two on and nobody out, time was called due to heavy wind and rain. Thirty minutes later, the Mocs started a scoring barrage to take a 3-0 lead.

When the teams retook the field, Abby Orr went to second to pinch run for Acelynn Sellers who reached base when she was hit by a pitch. Snell was on first after drawing a walk just before the delay.

Cernuto sacrificed Orr and Snell into scoring position.

Olivia Lipari laced a two-run double to right center to put the first two runs on the baord. She moved to third on a ground out and scored on a single to right center by Forsythe and UTC led 3-0.

With two outs in the fifth, the Mocs added three more runs to take a 6-0 lead. Cernuto reached on a throwing error and advanced to second. Forsythe sent her home for the Mocs fourth run with a double down the left field line. Kaili Phillips doubled to right field, scoring Forsythe. Anna Dovey, pinch hitting for Jayce Purdy, hit an RBI single to right field scoring Phillips.

Chattanooga had eight hits and gave up three to the Governors. Forsythe led Chattanooga hitting 3-for-3 with four RBI. Lipari drove in two runs while Phillips and Dovey each had one.

Austin Peay had three hits in the game. Kendyl Weinzapfel was 2-for-3. The Govs went through three pitchers, with starter Samantha Meiner going two and two-thirds innings. Ashley Martin came on in the third and struck out four in two innings. She gave up four hits and allowed three runs.

Izzy Alley went five innings and picked up her fourth win. She struck out one, gave two free passes and allowed two hits without giving up a run. Alyssa Lavdis came on in the sixth and struck out two of the four batters she faced with one hit and no runs.

The Mocs remain home to complete a seven game home stand hosting Southern Conference newcomer Wofford for a three-game weekend series. The Saturday doubleheader begins at 1:00 p.m.
