Mocs Beat Gardner Webb 69-66 on Half Court Buzzer Beater From Trey Bonham

(gomocs.com) Trey Bonham’s mid-court buzzer-beating three-pointer capped a 69-66 Chattanooga Mocs comeback win over visiting Gardner-Webb in McKenzie Arena. Bonham, who was sitting out the season a 2-time NCAA transfer student, is playing his second game as a Moc. The buzzer-beater is the first by the Mocs since David Jean-Baptiste’s iconic triple in the Southern Conference Championship game to send his squad to the 2022 NCAA Tournament.

The Bulldogs led for 38:08 of the 40 minutes including a high of 17 points in the first half. The deficit was 13 (55-42) with 9:30 to go before an 11-0 run sliced it to two, 55-53, on two Tyler Millin free throws.

Lucas Stieber’s three pointer off an offensive rebound looked like a dagger with 2:23 to go. It gave Gardner-Webb a six-point cushion, 64-58, although they didn’t score again until the final seconds. And what a final seconds they were.

Millin drilled a three with 10 seconds to go for the 66-64 advantage. Caleb Robinson’s layup in the final seconds looked to send the game into overtime, however, Bonham had different plans.

The Mocs improve to 8-3. They were led by Jan Zidek’s 27. Bonham added 15 points, seven rebounds and four steals, while Millin added 10 points. Julien Soumaoro led the Bulldogs with 17 points. They fall to 5-8.
