Mocs Bounce Tennessee Wesleyan in Coke Zero Sugar Classic
(gomocs.com) – The Chattanooga Mocs men’s basketball team posted a convincing 109-59 victory over NAIA-member Tennessee Wesleyan on the opening day of the 2025 Coke Zero Sugar Classic hosted inside McKenzie Arena on Friday afternoon.
Chattanooga (4-3) has now won three-straight games after dropping three of its first four to open the season. All 12 Mocs who saw action on Friday recorded points while the squad used a 59-point second half to help break away from Tennessee Wesleyan (5-3).
Game Breakdown
– Chattanooga raced out to an early 17-8 lead just five minutes in as Jordan Frison, Billy Smith and Teddy Washington Jr. all knocked down triples during the stretch.
– Tennessee Wesleyan put together a 5-0 scoring run to cut its deficit to five, 21-16 (10:48), before back-to-back threes from Brennan Watkins and Billy Smith upped the Mocs lead back to double digits, 27-16, with 9:17 left in the half.
– Chattanooga held TWU scoreless over the final 1:37 of the opening half and used five unanswered points to take a 50-31 lead at the break. The 50 points marked the most first-half points for the team since 52 against TWU back on December 10, 2023.
– Jordan Frison scored 12 quick points to open the second half and help Chattanooga build a sizable 67-33 lead with 15:30 left in the contest.
– The scoring attack continued over the next eight-plus minutes as the Mocs created a 45-point advantage, 89-44, at the 7:32 mark before closing out the lopsided 109-59 victory.
