Mocs Brace For Another SoCon Battle With Furman
Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) Furman defeated Chattanooga not once, but twice last year.
17-14 in the regular season, and 26-7 in the playoffs.
Said head coach Rusty Wright:”We can’t do anything about last year. Revenge factor and all of that kind of stuff be honest with you. The kids haven’t said anything about it. I haven’t talked about it.”
In the first meeting, Mocs quarterback Chase Artopoeus was injured.
Said Artopoeus:”Maybe the second play of the game. Threw the ball. Got hit. Landed on it wrong. Freak incident. I had so much adrenaline going. That’s what carried me through that game.”
When the adrenaline wore off, Artopoeus missed the rest of the year with a shoulder injury, including
the playoff loss to Furman. Artopoeus didn’t even attend the game because he had surgery earlier in the week. Cheering from home was hard and maybe not so hard.
Said Artopoeus:”I was on enough pain meds where I was able to relax during that time.”
Coach Wright says it’s always a pain facing the Purple Paladins.
Said Wright:”One thing they have always done is they make you go beat them. They don’t typically beat themselves when it comes to playing football.”
Both teams are just 2-3 overall.
Remember though the Mocs opened the year with Tennessee, and Furman did likewise with an SEC opponent.
Said wright:”They opened up with Ole Miss to start with. As a matter of fact I talked with to Clay that Sunday afternoon. we were kind of crying in our beers.”
Rusty going Hank Williams Junior with there’s a tear in my beer.
Mocs need to immitate another one of Hank’s hits since this a SoCon showdown.
A country boy can survive.
Said linebacker Kobe Joseph:”I’m sure a lot of people are worried about the outcome. I love being in those type of games. I love when it’s down to the fourth quarter, and we are in a tight one and everything counts. It’s something I look forward to, and it’s something I love about SoCon play.”
