Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) Ten Chattanooga Mocs showed off in front of NFL scouts last week in hopes of earning a coveted spot in the pros. News 12’s Angela Moryan caught up with an Ooltewah native trying to make dreams come true.
Said UTC defensive backs coach
Camiron Smith: “Rashun is definitely one of the best athletes and brightest athletes that I’ve been around.”
Chattanooga defensive back Rashun Freeman has dreamed of playing in front of NFL scouts since he was an Ooltewah Owl. Thursday, that became reality.
Said Freeman: “It’s huge. It’s huge for me. I think it’s huge for the younger kids coming up from Chattanooga seeing that it’s possible from here to be able to make it to the NFL. I believe it’s a really big deal.”
Said UTC tight ends coach Jacob Huesman: “It’s great to have local kids on your football team to begin with. Rashun was a class act of one. He did everything we ever asked him to do. Very coachable kid, very hardworking kid. Never had any issues out of him and that’s what you want. It’s nice to see him come out here andbe able to run around in front of the scouts and get to show what he can do hopefully moving forward at the next level.”
Freeman was a quiet force on the field – this season highlighted by an interception against Kentucky. His intelligence is what makes him stand out. He’ll graduate with his second engineering degree in May.
Said Smith: “He’s athletic as all get out. He’s a quick guy. You go back, you can watch his high school tape. Definitely somebody who’s fast, quick, has good feet, good motor skills, and like I said smart, and that’s so important in this game, especially on the college level, especially in the NFL, you have to be smart. I think that that there is the best part of his game in my opinion.”
Said Freeman: “I feel like I’m probably underrated right now, and that’s fine. I just believe that I can get into a camp and show my skills, I can compete with anybody. I know if I can get to a camp, I’ll be able to earn my spot on the team.”
