Mocs Devonnsha Maxwell Turning Into Sack Monster
Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) Mocs defensive lineman Devonnsha Maxwell put on a show against ETSU.
Dude racked up a school record five sacks.
Maxwell is now tied for first in the nation with ten sacks on the season.
When you rack up five sacks in a game like Devonnsha Maxwell did last Saturday, you know you’re a beast.
Said defensive back Jerrell Lawson:”I call him a freak. He can do anything that you can imagine. He’s fast. He’s quick. He’s definitely strong.”
Said head coach Rusty Wright:”A load in there. That’s a big man around 300 pounds moving at a high rate of speed. You watch him on some of those sacks. He kind of lets all that noise and stuff happen around him, and all of a sudden, bam. He shows up.”
When Maxwell lines up in practice for some one-on-one bam action, it’s best to hide the women and children.
Said Lawson:”In fall camp seeing him and Cole Strange just go at it in our live period. Man. That’s like two rhinos colliding like I mean.” (chuckles)
Of Maxwell’s ten sacks this season, nine have come in the fourth quarter.
Maybe coach should tell him every quarter is the fourth quarter.
Said Wright:”He has got more in him. He can do some things and take some things over. I told him that yesterday at practice. I said great game man. Played your tail off, but you can actually play better.”
Said Maxwell:”I’m never complacent. Even when I do stuff good or quote-unquote perfect, I still find a way to say that wasn’t perfect. I’m nitpicking with myself, so I make sure I’m never regressing or just try to get better.”
Coach Wright knows he’s lucky to have Maxwell at UTC.
Said Wright:”If he’s 6’3 or 6’4, he’s playing at Georgia. He’s big enough. Long enough. He’s fast enough to go get things done. He’ll give himself a chance to play on Sundays eventually.”
