Mocs Expect Tough Test Against Samford
Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) Easy wins are rare in college football. Mocs got one last weekend against the Citadel. But they know nothing will be easy this week, as they travel to Samford.
When you win a game 48-3 like the Mocs did over Citadel, life is good.
Said head coach Rusty Wright:”I thought the biggest thing coming out of Saturday was we played I think pretty much everybody that dressed out. I don’t think anybody that wasn’t dressed didn’t get an opportunity to go in the game.”
The Mocs nearly had more points than plays…thanks to the new rules where the clock doesn’t stop on first downs.
Said Wright:”I mean we only played probably 56. I think it was 56 or 57 plays on offense on Saturday. I mean we do more than that in practice on a Tuesday and Wednesday, and it’s not even close.”
The play count will go up this weekend against Samford, who goes up-tempo.
Said Wright:”In the Southern Conference’s infinite wisdom we go from a team that huddles every snap and goes slow to one that goes as fast as it can go this Saturday.”
Bulldogs were really good last year, beating Chattanooga 35-24 on their way to the SoCon title.
Said Wright:”I think we they came to our place they were rolling. It was a good football team, and they were playing with a lot of confidence. They were playing at a high level on both sides of the ball.”
Samford’s Michael Hiers is a high level quarterback.
He leads the league in passing. He threw it 47 times last year against Chattanooga.
Said Wright:”He’s a big guy. He doesn’t look it on film, but when you’re up next to him and watch him play, he’s much bigger guy in person. Very smart in what they do.”
Mocs can’t go to sleep on the Bulldogs running game either.
Said linebacker Alex Mitchell:”I would say their backs are more athletic. They know what they’re doing back there.”
Said Wright:”I think it’s the most talented team in our league. Top to bottom on both sides of the football. Maybe the oldest team in our league.”
