Mocs Expected to Face Alabama Ace Montana Fouts in NCAA Regional

Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) When the Mocs take on Alabama in the NCAA softball regionals Friday, they expect to face Montana Fouts. How good is the 6’1 pitcher? She made her high school team…in the sixth grade. And last year, she threw a perfect game in the College World Series.

Montana Fouts is top 15 in the nation in strikeouts this year and in her 23 starts, she has 18 complete games.
Said infielder Emily Coltharp:”I think that she just has such poise when she’s pitching, and she’s so confident in herself. You can just tell by looking at somebody when they are confident, and that they are going to throw the ball really hard. She has great movement. She has a really good rise ball.”
Said head coach Reed:”Well she’s big. Big kid. Tall. Get long levers, and so she can go after it. She loves the rise ball. That’s her favorite pitch.”
Said infielder Reagan Armour:”Her rise ball is just unheard of and unseen.”
Reporter:”How difficult is that rise ball?”
Said Coltharp:”It looks like it’s coming in so fat, and then you start to swing. As soon as you start your hands you’re like oh no. Cause it’s right abve your hands every single time.”
Good luck hitting Fouts rise ball.
Said outfielder Gracey Kruse:”Just having the same mindset. Going in there trying to barrel the bat up to the ball will be just how we can succeed off her.”
Said Reed:”She’ll throw a lot of balls. She won’t throw strikes. She’ll want you to battle her bad pitches. So if we can alleviate the bad pitches, then I think we can make some hay.”
For Chattanooga, it’s exciting to face a legendary pitcher.
Said Armour:”We’re going to be fan-girling a little bit. That’s awesome. Just like you said she’s one of the best pitchers in the country, and the fact that she is going to be studying and looking at our charts is something that is a pretty surreal moment to think about.”
Said Coltharp:”Should we ask for an autograph after the game or like a picture? We’re like maybe not. Maybe not. But yeah I know. I mean I’ve looked up to her. She’s awesome. She carries herself so well. I think that it’s going to be really cool just to have a chance to hit off her.”
