Mocs Football Features a Harvard Graduate in Linebacker Kobe Joseph
Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) The Mocs football team has attracted an Ivy League graduate.
Linebacker Kobe Joseph transferred from Harvard to UTC during the off-season, bringing a veteran presence and plenty of football savviness.
Reporter:”Describe football at Harvard?”
Said Joseph:”Um. It’s a similar competition to here, but school definitely comes first.”
Harvard is the oldest college in America..founded in 1636, well before the United States was born.
So did Joseph get a sense of the history there?
Said Joseph:”I remember my first year there. Every time I walked into a building it seemed like a Harry Potter building. Our dining hall was this ridiculous place. You get a little bit used to it.”
With his Harvard degree in hand, Joseph wanted a change of scenery.
Said Joseph:”I kind of had Tennessee and the south in my radar. I wanted to come to this region and part of the country. I’ve heard a lot of great things about it.”
Hello Portal. Hello Chattanooga.
Said Mocs head coach Rusty Wright:”He fit us. We fit him. Film was good. Played some football, and that was the thing we were worried about is having somebody there in that room. We had two new starters. We knew we were going to have at least two new starters there. Thought it was important to have somebody that had played a little more college football and those kind of things.”
This season Joseph has two sacks and two picks
, including a 13 tackle performance against VMI
Said Wright:”But he’s football smart. That’s one thing. He dissects and sees things pretty well.”
Speaking of smarts, Joseph is a chess player
Reporter:”Is it hard to find enough people to play chess with?”
Said Joseph:”It’s tough to find somebody at the same level you know.”
