Mocs Hoping to Find Success at Mercer

Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) Mocs suffered a 52-50 loss to Western Carolina on Saturday, and it won’t get any easier this weekend against the Mercer Bears.

When the Mocs enter Bear country, they know the Bears are going to charge.
Said defensive back Romeo Wykle:”People in Macon love the Mercer Bears. That makes it tough to play there. They’re a proud group. Anytime you play a proud group on their home field, it’s going to be a tough game.”
Said head coach Rusty Wright:”I think in ’15 we went down there ranked second or third in the country. They played lights out. Dumping water on the head coach and everything else. It’s just one of those deals where they like to play us.”
Mercer is just a tough environment.
Said receiver Jamoi Mayes:”Their fans man. I know we sit right in front of the student section. They’re heckling you and telling you you’re not good or whatever. Gets you fired up.”
Said Wright:”Locker room is not a great setup. It’s a little

crazy because you’ve got to go from the locker room to the field to a half-way house. Back to the field.”
Reporter:”You mentioned a half-way house. What is that?”
Said Wright:”It’s just part of a locker room. I’m not sure how to explain it. You don’t have to go all the way back to the locker room. It’s right there off the field. It’s not set up to be a locker room.”
Mocs know they can’t give a half-hearted effort.
Bears have a tough defense and an outstanding pair of receivers.
Said Wright:”The last two weeks I think they gave up six to East Tennessee, and I think they gave up three to VMI two weeks in-a-row, so they’re playing really well.”
Said Wykle:”We’ve definitely got our hands full with the two they have. They’re all conference. One of them is really good on their special teams as well. We’ve got to come prepared to play.”
Said Wright:”They’re gong to throw some punches, and we’ve got to go down there and handle them.”
