Mocs Jasmine Joyner Named SoCon Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga junior Jasmine Joyner has been named the Innovative Office Solutions Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played Feb. 2-8, the league office announced Tuesday. The Southaven, Miss., native averaged 14.0 points and 9.5 rebounds per game as the Mocs earned a pair of home conference wins last week.

Joyner scored a game-high 19 points on 9-of-11 shooting, adding 14 rebounds and five blocks in UTC’s 61-46 victory at Furman on Feb. 4. The performance marked her sixth double-double of the season. Two days later, the UTC forward tied a school record with eight rejections in a convincing 65-48 win over Wofford, helping the Mocs record a single-game program record with 14 blocked shots as a team. She also tallied nine points, four assists and two steals against the Terriers.

Joyner leads the country in blocks per game (4.2) and total blocks (96). Her average of 9.2 rebounds per game is tops in the SoCon, and her 45.8 field-goal percentage on the season ranks third in the league. This is her second consecutive player of the week honor.

The Mocs (16-7, 7-2 SoCon) will be back in action when they travel to UNCG on Thursday for a 7 p.m. (EST) tipoff. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3.

Other nominees: Shamauria Bridges (ETSU), Kahlia Lawrence (Mercer) and Destiney Elliott (Samford).
