Mocs Keep Winning With Unselfish Play
Chattanooga-(WDEF) For the Mocs basketball team this season….less is more.
When the guys play selfless, they win more.
UTC turned in another unselfish performance last night, putting five guys in double figures to beat Western Carolina 77-58.
Mocs coach Matt McCall had genuine concern for the Catamounts because he knew they would put up a fight.
McCall-"You don’t lead the Southern Conference in steals and be second in offensive rebounds without being an extremely physical basketball team. I felt like we handled it the right way tonight."
But it was the Mocs unselfish play that proved to be too much to handle for Western Carolina.
Said Catamounts coach Larry Hunter-"Very unselfish. Very well coached. Just a good, good basketball team. Good solid team."
McCall-"We played the right way. Very similar to the other night against Wofford. When we get the ball moving like that, we can be tough to guard,"
And the Mocs are tough to beat because of their bench like backup Dee Oldham.
Said Mocs center Justin Tuoyo-"Even Dee Oldham having nine rebounds. That’s impressive coming off the bench."
McCall-"He’s got a knack. He’s got a knack for rebounding. The ball finds his hands. That’s a gift. It really is."
Besides Oldham, reserve guard Alex Bran sparked the Mocs with two three-pointers in the first half.
McCall-"I felt more comfortable putting Alex in there in the first half just because of how he has been practicing."
Said Mocs guard Greg Pryor-"We’ve got confidence in him and his shot. Whenever he touches the ball, we want him to shoot the ball."
McCall-"That guy has put his heart and soul into this program for four years. To see him have some success in a league game, I couldn’t be prouder of him."
Coach loves a deep bench with the schedule grind this week. Saturday’s matchup with ETSU will mark the Mocs third game this week.
McCall-"We’ve got to be the only conference in the country playing three games in a week. I think we actually do it three times this year."
