Mocs No Match For Illinois in Falling 31-0
The Chattanooga Mocs were unable to shock the world in falling 31-0 to Illinois in the first ever Thursday night game at Memorial Stadium. Illini scored a touchdown on their opening drive, and it didn’t take them long to seize control of the game. Chase Brown opened the scoring on a nine yard touchdown run. He entered the game as the nation’s leading rusher and finished with 108 yards on the night.
Chattanooga trailed 10-0 when Alym Ford broke off a 39-yard run to the Illini 16 yard line. Mocs came up empty as Preston Hutchinson threw an interception in the end zone. Tough night for UTC’s starting quarterback. He was 6-18 for 49 yards with two interceptions. Mocs managed only 142 yards of offense on the night with Ford getting the bulk of the yardage with 93 yards rushing. Illinois on the other hand had 500 yards of total offense. On the Mocs radio post game show, UTC head coach Rusty Wright said, “Offensively we got our butts kicked.” Mocs punted nine times.
In the second quarter, Tommy Devito had a 2 yard touchdown pass to Isaiah Williams to make it 17-0. Then right before the half, DeVito hit Pat Bryant for a 17 yard touchdown to make it 24-0 at halftime.
In the third quarter, Isaiah Williams had a 63 yard touchdown reception to close out the scoring.
Chattanooga suffers their first loss of the year to fall to 3-1. They have their first SoCon road game next Saturday as they travel to ETSU.
