Mocs Offense Making Strides Heading Into Mercer Game

Chattanooga-(WDEF) The Chattanooga Mocs may not have the top offense in the SoCon, but they continue to make progress.
UTC heads into Saturday’s conference match-up with Mercer, averaging over thirty points a game.

When the Mocs offense struggled in their first two games this season, quarterback Jacob Huesman says he had to keep his cool.
"Coach (Jeff) Durden says this all the time. You can’t let them see you sweat. Regardless of how frustrating it may have been for me, I couldn’t let it show. We had a key injury to OL Synjen Herren in camp. We kind of had to shuffle people around and scramble and try to get people in some new positions. I think it really came down to those guys just needing to settle in and get used to playing those new positions."
Now the Mocs are making their SoCon opponents sweat. In their three league games, UTC is averaging 42-points a contest.
Said head coach Russ Huesman,"Upfront offensively, they’re working hard. We’re getting yards based on those guys doing a great job. We’re also getting yards based on our backs."
Mocs will try to go 4-0 in SoCon play for the first time ever Saturday against Mercer.
The Bears are in just their second year of football, but they’re not playing like it.
"I think they have come so far so fast. It’s kind of scary. I actually went up to do the radio show. Said how is Samford and Mercer. They told me the score. (Samford won 21-18) And I said, are you kidding me? That’s just all we need is another really good team in the league."
Chattanooga gets the Bears at Finley Stadium.
UTC leads the SoCon in attendance averaging over 10-thousand a game.
Said Russ Huesman,"We should lead the league in attendance. We do have good support, and it makes me feel good that people come out to watch us."
