Mocs OL Cole Strange Awaits the Upcoming NFL Draft
Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) The NFL draft goes down next month, and Mocs offensive lineman Cole Strange expects to hear his name called. Strange has already had the chance to showcase his talents for NFL coaches and scouts at the Senior Bowl and NFL Combine. News 12’s Rick Nyman recently caught up with the Mocs big fella as he prepares for his NFL journey.
Cole Strange admits the NFL draft process leads to surreal moments.
Said Strange:”I think it was the first day at the Senior Bowl, and we were doing one-on-ones. I had went and I was standing back and resting until my turn again. I was just getting some water, and I was doing one of these numbers. Mike Tomlin was standing like five feet away from me. I was like what? I took like a triple-take. I was like. That was a moment where I was like holy smokes.”
Strange also did a triple take at some test questions.
Said Strange:”We are taking psychological tests, and they had some weird questions. Not necessarily weird, where I was taken aback, but one of them was like. If you were an animal, would you be a dog or a cat? I was like I’d be a bear but that’s not an option.”
Strange’s UTC teammates might agree that Strange plays like a bear.
Said current Mocs offensive lineman Colin Truett:”He’s an animal. Tough, nasty guy. That all goes in with his preparation as well. He’s the same way in the weight room. He’s the same way in the training room. He does everything perfectly. That’s why he is where he is.”
Reporter:”I know a lot of times they talk. They describe you like an animal.”
Said Strange:”I guess anytime someone describes me that way, I appreciate it.”
Reporter:”How can you be an animal in the weight room?”
Said Truett:”Well I mean just throwing that big weight around.”
At the NFL Combine, Strange tore up the 225-pound bench press.
Said Strange:”I got 31 (reps) which is pretty good. They said that anything in the 30’s is normally above average.”
And who knows, Strange may enjoy another surreal moment.
As a center, what if he’s taken by Tampa, and he’s snapping the ball to Tom Brady.
Said Strange:”I think he has been in the league longer than I’ve been alive, so that would be really cool.” (chuckles)
