Mocs Prepare For Another SoCon Showdown Against First Place Samford

Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) Another week.
Another SoCon showdown for the Mocs.
They entertain Samford, the only unbeaten team left in conference play.
Mocs need a win over the Bulldogs to obtain a share of first place.

Last year against Samford the Mocs could do no wrong in whipping the Bulldogs 55-13.
Said head coach Rusty Wright:”Up until probably one this year that was the best game we played since I’ve been the head coach.”
Said linebacker Kam Jones:”Anytime you get a good lead on a team. Lot of stress off the defense. You can go out there and play free. I remember Rashaun (Freeman) interception down there in their end zone. Lot of good plays made that game.”
Mocs will need a lot of good plays to beat this year’s version of the Bulldogs.
Said Wright:”Think they’ve won the last six. I’m not sure any of them have been less that two scores. I think they have pretty much separated themselves from everybody in the league. The thing they have gotten better at. They’re better defensively than they have been in the past.”
Mocs quarterback Preston Hutchinson says Samford’s defense is unique because they utilize three safeties.
Said Hutchinson:”It’s really funky because usually your first thing as a quarterback I’ve been taught is all right is it one high or two high safeties. Looking out and seeing three across the board is kind of. Kind of messes with you a little.”
Reporter:”Is it a must-win game?”
Said Wright:(exhales) “You know. I don’t know. We’re going to go out there and practice tomorrow and see how well we do. I said it a couple of weeks ago. If we’re good enough, we’re good enough. We’ll let this season play out and see what it looks like.”

Kickoff at Finley Stadium is set for 1:30pm.
